In the year 1936, Mahatma Gandhiji had said "If the villages perish, India will perish too". Today even after six decades of independence, people of the villages remains unreached. The rural people have been deprived of education, health care, employment and over all welfare. According to the latest World Bank estimate nearly 40% of the Indian population falls below the poverty line and every third poor in the world is from India. On the contrast, India has as many as 69 billionaires which is fourth largest in the world. These statistics gives clear picture on social imbalance in India which consequently has affected India's over all development.

With this in mind Sri Guru Raghavendra Charitable Trust was established in June 2001 in Lakkasandra, a remote village in Doddaballapur, Bangalore rural district; as per the advice of our Spiritual Guru - Sri Rayaru with the motto "Reaching the unreached". It started with giving free education to 34 children in two classrooms constructed out of a mud building. Today the trust provides quality education to over 500 students of 50 different villages under Sri Guru Raghavendra Vidyaniketana. Apart from education we have extended our activities to rural employment generation, health care services to village people, women welfare, creating the social awareness etc. We believe humanity is the only religion and strive for the welfare of the people irrespective of caste, creed, community and religion.

Education

NGO in Bangalore Education is the only key for social reformation. We visit the families of villages, explain them the importance of education and convince the parents to send their kids to schools. Due to our continuous effort on this, today we have 500+ students from 50 surrounding villages studying in our institution Sri Guru Raghavandra Vidyaniketana.

CSR Activities

Our trust SGRCT (Shri Guru Raghavendra Charitable trust) through the inception of its school Shri Guru Raghavendra Vidyaniketana (SGRV) is able to provide high quality education through English medium of study in and around for 90 villages population, especially the poor farmer's and other underprivileged children. In addition we have been working on other aspects like the upliftment of women through empowering them with the skills needed to become independent and other such social activities now for almost 16 years of time.  We have been knocking doors of every house in these villages and making them understand the importance of education for their children since our inception. Today, its very proud moment for SGRV to boast that their school children are pursuing Engineering, Medical and other degree courses. This has resulted in more and more number of village folks sending their children to our school. Unfortunately, we are limited in infrastructure especially the classrooms.
